Help The Pups Mistreated in Wealthy CA City
The Issue
There is a small colony of California Harbor Seals that have chosen this beach to have their pups and haul out for rest during the day and night. The beach is tiny ( approx. 150m to 200 m long) and because it is in an urban area (La Jolla), people interfere with and harass these animals on a daily basis. There is no enforcement of the "marine mammal act" by anyone who watches the area. The beach needs to be closed to people! As it is, people can walk right up to the seals and disturb them endlessly...and people do! They have thrown sand at them, rocks, and seashells. People try to touch them, splash them, and even pet them! These are beautiful, docile , friendly animals but their numbers are dwindling because of the mistreatment and encroachment of people.
