Nearly seven million children will die this year before they turn five. That’s seven million 5th birthdays never reached and seven million child deaths that could have been prevented with simple, lifesaving solutions.
We’re making progress. Since 1990, under-five child deaths have been reduced by 40%. However, this progress hides the horrible reality that almost 7 million children will still die from preventable causes this year.
UNICEF is the international leader in providing the tools and interventions needed to prevent child deaths – lifesaving solutions like new vaccines for diseases like diarrhea and pneumonia, new programs to reach children who used to be impossible to reach, and innovations in technology. With these advances, our goal of ensuring that ZERO children die of preventable causes is finally within reach.
Please show your support for child survival and join our call for political leadership and country-led action plans. Take the pledge and commit to child survival – together we can renew the promise and bring the number of preventable child deaths to zero by 2035.
