WE SUPPORT FNDC ‘HEATED SWIMMING POOL FACILITY’ PROJECT to replace the outdoor public pools at Kerikeri High School. The proposed idea of a new indoor heated swimming pool complex which includes 25m main pool, a learn to swim pool, a gym facility, cafe area, a Hydrotherapy pool & a toddlers water play area is fantastic idea.

Please include each of change.org comments and signatory as a submission of support to 'the swimming pools feasibility study' by representative Fay at fay@freeman.co.nz

SOME REASONS:

THIS PROPOSED PROJECT IS WELL OVERDUE & A SENSIBLE INVESTMENT FOR SO MANY!
THERE ARE SO MANY REASONS TOO SUPPORT A SWIMMING POOL COMPLEX. - Please read the below:

√ FAMILY: We are short of all weather family Activities. Heated pools complexes are a great value social activity Winter & Summer.
√ SCHOOLS: Our school kids are not swimming enough. PC & over regulation have made hundreds of school pools too expensive to maintain & closed down the good 'old school pool'. In winter the school pool is too cold & not used. A shared heated community facility will allow year around swimming & fitness.
√ CHILD SAFETY: Winter or summer this will be the place to teach young to swim & get kids water safe.
√ HEALTH - : Elderly, Young, Over weight, swimming is an effective, fun and very social way to exercise.
√ SCHOOLS: Our school kids are not swimming enough. PC & over regulation have made hundreds of school pools too expensive to maintain & closed down the good 'old school pool'. In winter the school pool is too cold & not used. A shared heated community facility will allow year around swimming & fitness.
√ COMPETITIVE SWIMMING & WATER SPORT: We have All Blacks coming out of Northland, lets get some Olympic Swimmers.
Water Volleyball, diving, Water hockey, canoe hockey, Water Volleyball, Synchronized swimming etc etc
√ ELDERLY: Lots of Elderly support this but don't do email., there are many group fitness activities like water aerobics that are healthy, fun & will be privately organised.
√ TOURISM: Rainy days or fine, we are short of land based activities! Tourists will pay good money to bring their families to a fun swim center.
√ TROUBLED YOUTH WITH NOT ENOUGH TO DO: Kids need to be kept fit & busy and need fun stuff to do. These places are fun & full of kids being kids & learn public discipline.
√ INJURIES: Nothing beats swimming to repair injury damage - ACC rehabilitation use heated pools in Auckland for this purpose.
√ ASB Swimming Centre is too far away for Elderly, Young People, Local Schools, Parents, Tourists, Kerikeri is a sensible hub.
√ THIS IS IMPORTANT - WE CAN AFFORD IT! Kerikeri is now blessed with Arts, Theatre, Netball, Library, Roller blade Sport Center, Skate board, an amazing big fountain, Rugby & Soccer Sports Fields etc - the next big important community asset is a descent swimming pool complex that when set up & run properly (solar heating) could be financially sustainable. Also it will very likely get more use - by more people than any of the above facilities.
PS If you think our region can't afford it, then get rid of some of councils dead investments & low importance activities.
swim & get kids water safe.

be great to teach our young ones to swim in kerikeri, the outdoor pool (at the school) is cold during winter & used by the school during summer & is very limited times for anyone else to use.

so that our children can swim during the winter seasons. I have a special needs boy who loves water and a inside heated pool would be so wonderful to have in kerikeri. thank you
