Gulfstream Council: Reject the Boy Scouts of America's anti-gay policy

    2. Petition by

      Miami, FL

We, the Scouting community of South Florida urge the Gulfstream Council to reject the Boy Scouts of America's anti-gay policy.

Service organizations including the Girl Scouts, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and the 4H Club all welcome gay kids and adult leaders. Also, the American Medical Association has opposed the Boy Scouts' anti-gay policy, saying it could cause "psychological trauma" in youth.

We love the Boy Scouts, but we can’t support this policy. That's why we urge you to speak out and adopt an inclusive policy like other troops, packs, councils, and lodges across the country have done -- so the Boy Scouts can maintain its relevancy, improve recruitment, and truly live by the principles it teaches its members.

NOTE: We encourage everyone to join this campaign, but if you're a current or former Scout or leader, please say so in the "Why People Are Signing" section. Thanks!

Thank you for all who signed this petition. Today the Boy Scouts of America made a step in the right direction and lifted the ban on gay youth. I will continue to serve with the Scouts for Equality until we have an all-inclusive movement here in America.

IT IS PROOF, IN AMERICA, ALL ARE EQUAL.MANY PEOPLE DENY THE FACT THAT GAY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN POSITIVLY AFFECTING THE LIVES OF MOST OF US. STOP DENIAL AND RECOGNIZE THE IMPACT ALL PEOPLE HAVE ON SOCIETY.

Men and Boys need to learn to respect themselves and others. The Boy Scouts teaches many lessons and helps everyone...IF it is inclusive. Otherwise, it promotes discrimination and hatred of that which they don't know.

My nephew is a scout and gay, he should not be discriminated against for being born gay, nor should anyone else.

I am signing this petition because there are some things that are so American they fall outside the line of politics. Things that are neither about being Democrat or Republican, things that are plain and simple about being just plain RIGHT and permitting ever young man the opportunity to Scout and every grown man who can the opportunity to LEAD a Boy Scouts of America troupe are two things that I feel are as AMERICAN as our Flag, our Moms, and Apple Pie. Don't take the Boy Scouts of America down the wrong road this time. You have an opportunity here to be on the correct side of history. When our children's children look back on these times we are living in make it possible for them to read that you were a LEADER who kept the Boy Scouts of America a part of the basic fabric of this great nation of ours, not someone who because of his unwillingness to change put it on the scrap heap of history.

The ban is immoral and wrong. Ask people should be judged by their character and their deeds. That is the message that the Scotts should be sending to their youth!
