Greed KILLS! Are You Next? Corporate greed is threatening the lives of miners and their families!

Thousands of retired miners and their dependents are at risk of losing healthcare and other retirement benefits because of a bankruptcy filing. Patriot Coal Corp. was formed by purchasing mines from Peabody Energy and Arch Coal Corp. Many of these retirees never worked a day for Patriot Coal. A large number suffer the ill health affects caused by years in coal mining. More information can be garnered at

I started this petition because my dad retired from an Arch company.  He and my mother depend on the health insurance that he was promised under contract with Arch.  He and many others were "sold" to Patriot, and now have to worry that they will now end up in bankruptcy due to health care costs.  Miners like my Dad held up their end of the bargain.  They made these companies billions.  They are only asking for what they earned.

Years ago, employees toiled for wages and the promise of healthcare for life. Many of these employees suffer the ill health effects of years in the coal industry. They are not rich. Please do the right thing, not for the stockholders' bank accounts, but for the employees who made the fortunes for your company.

My husband also worked for Arch for many years and we both are at the stage in our lives that our benefits mean everything to us. If they cut anything at all, I don't know what will happen !!

The miners worked years thinking they would have great health insurance. Now PATRIOT has broken promises they made to the workers. You worked for years thinking when I retire I won"t have to worry about health insurance. This is the time in life when you really need insurance as we are getting older and not able to work. PATRIOT LIED!!!!!

My Daddy is one of those unfortunate people this is happening too. This is just not right to do this to all the men and women who have proudly put many years into working in the coal industry to make sure that others were never left in the dark.

My childrens popaw works in the mines, and I know several other friends husbands who's whole family depends on this income to take care of their families. Plus it is about the only thing holding the economy up in West Virginia alone.
