Sara Feigenholtz responds:

Sara Feigenholtz

Thank you for contacting me regarding Senate Bill 3442 and plastic bag recycling.

Senate Bill 3442 creates the Plastic Bag and Film Recycling Act. The bill would require plastic bag manufacturers to register with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and develop and plastic bag recycling program. Manufacturers would also be required to disclose on their bags their name and recycled content. Municipalities with populations over 2 million (Chicago) would be exempt from these requirements. Many Illinois municipalities have already adopted policies governing plastic bag usage.

I fully support initiatives that will drastically reduce plastic bag useage and voted against Senate Bill 3442. Despite my opposition, the bill won approval of the House and Senate and is under consideration by the governor.

Thank you again for contacting me about matters that are important to you. If you have further questions on this issue, or on any other issue facing the State, please contact me, or a member of my staff at (773) 296-4141.

Very truly yours,

Sara Feigenholtz
