Governor Cuomo: Replace New York State's oldest trains with "Green" trains

    1. Petition by

April 2013

From petition Creator: We won! Governor Cuomo and top New York State legislators put $3M for a new train engine in the 2014 budget! We changed the dialogue from IF the trains should be replaced to HOW they should be replaced. It is a stunning victory. Although we will have to ask for money for new trains each year, the need is established and there is a precedent. Our campaign supported the budget initiative by the NYS legislature, led by Assemblyman Andrew Hevesi. The legislative initiative was a response to longstanding community concerns about public health and environmental impacts from old, noisy, high polluting trains.

Hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers benefit from locomotive waste transfer in the form of less congested highways. But because New York's own trains are so old, people who live near the tracks in NYC and L.I. suffer from needless pollution and related health problems. We are simply asking that New York's trains meet modern emissions standards required of every other transportation vehicle.

We have 103 signatures on their way to the NYS Senate Transportation and Finance Committees so far. We must have Senate support to get new new trains into the final legislative budget. Please share the petition with family, friends, and neighbors this weekend so we can show our concern. Thank you!

My grandchildren live less than two blocks away from the rail yard where these old trains operate in Queens. They are being needlessly exposed to air pollution from the oldest trains in NYS. This is wrong when new technology is available and it is state policy to use more trains and fewer trucks. Do the right thing NYS!
