Support Medicaid Expansion

    1. Petition by

      Idaho Cover Us All Coalition

Preamble:

• One in four adults (non elderly) in Idaho are uninsured, ranking in the bottom quarter of all states in the nation.

• Expanding Medicaid would ensure 80,000 more Idahoans will get the medical care they need, including preventive care that will save money and lives.

• 100% of the expansion will come from federal dollars for three years, phasing down to 90% thereafter.

• Estimates show Medicaid Expansion will save state and county governments 9 million dollars over ten years

• Expanding Medicaid will bring in 16.6 million dollars into Idaho stimulating the economy and creating 16,000 jobs across the state.

Idaho hospitals, provide over 45 million dollars a year. Medicaid expansion will reduce uncompensated care and reduce costs to the insured

Petition: As concerned Idaho citizens, we call on our state leaders to opt Idaho IN to the Medicaid Expansion Provisions of the Affordable Care Act. Expansion is fiscally conservative and economically sound decision. Idaho cover us all.

Sincerely,

    2. The Coverage Gap for Idaho Families

We want all of Idaho’s families to have the security of knowing they can get the health care they need without
going bankrupt. We also want our state to have laws that are fair to everyone and don’t play favorites.

In 2014, uninsured Americans in every state within a certain
income bracket will receive tax subsidies to help them purchase
coverage. This will keep these middle-income families healthier
and more economically secure. The piece of this policy designed
for families below this income bracket is through optional Medicaid
dollars, which each state must decide to accept.

Idaho faces an important choice: If we accept the new Medicaid
dollars, there will be an affordable coverage option for families
below this income bracket. If we reject the Medicaid dollars
and only implement half the policy, thousands of hardworking
Idaho families will not have access to affordable coverage and
will have no protection if they have a health emergency.

Idaho's Medicaid expansion choice could help businesses

An Idaho lobbying group says its estimates show opening up the program would cut costs. A decision by the Legislature not to broaden Medicaid's reach would cost $12.3 million to $18.5 million a year in penalties for large companies that don't insure their employees and unspecified amounts for other businesses as their insurance and taxes continue to subsidize care for the uninsured, the Idaho Association of Commerce and Industry says.

Too many people are impacted by this to not act. Consider the savings to Idaho and don't let politics distort a real need.
