Governor Brown: Protect schoolchildren from predators - VETO AB 375

Governor Brown: Protect schoolchildren from predators - VETO AB 375

    1. Petition by

      Judith Neufeld-Fernandez

      California

As a parent, nothing is more important than the safety of my kids.

I believe firmly that a teacher accused of inappropriate behavior needs to be removed from the classroom immediately, the police need to be notified, and there needs to be a full investigation. This should not be up for debate. I know that even one extra second of children not being safe is intolerable.

Yet Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan, under pressure from the teachers’ union, is trying to push through a bill (AB 375) that would make it more difficult to remove these teachers from the classroom. The bill doesn’t even allow all of the victims of abuse the opportunity to tell their story by limiting depositions to a maximum of five.

It’s unconscionable and unacceptable.

We need to tell our legislators that they CANNOT play politics with the safety of our children. Elected officials should be concerned about protecting kids, not campaign contributions.

Please sign this petition and tell Governor Jerry Brown to put our children first by vetoing AB 375. Safe schools should be our first priority.

I am trying to network with concerned citizens about the sex offender issue. My feeling is that the only way we can stop these sort of appalling decisions from occurring is if people organize and become proactive instead of reactive on this issue.

I would kindly appreciate it if you contacted our group at:

info [at] sexoffenderupdates [dot] com to discuss some ideas on how we can work together.

I have three children and one was abused by classroom aide. I was told that it was his word against hers she was nine at the time. I was not the first person she reported it to she followed what she has been taught all her life to tell the nearest adult that she trusted and she did. Just to be told that and the school was not going to anything about. I called 911 and told them they deemed my daughter was telling the truth and took action. If it wasn't for me calling 911 this man could still be working in the school district hurting other kids.

My children's safety is important to me and them. Too many child abuse incidents are covered up and the abusers continue to work with children, meanwhile our children are trying to heal from the abuse and failing to be successful in school. Our job is to keep them safe at home, why can’t they feel safe at school? Adults at the school sites need better training and learn how to work with all children. Students should be allowed to evaluate their teachers.
