Give Bharat Ratna award posthumously to Aligarh Movement founder Sir Syed Ahmad Khan

Give Bharat Ratna award posthumously to Aligarh Movement founder Sir Syed Ahmad Khan

The Issue

Bharat Ratna award has not been presented to anyone for the year 2011. The Government of India has amended the provisions of Bharat Ratna and included sportsmen in this category. Instead of presenting the award to sportsmen, it would be better to bestow Bharat Ratna posthumously to the Founder of Aligarh Movement Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, a great educationist, social reformer, modernist and scholar of 19th century who contributed immensely in building modern India by establishing Aligarh Muslim University. Presenting the award at this crucial juncture of Indian history would be a befitting tribute to this great son of India, and spur educational renaissance among Indian Muslims, and wean away wayward youngsters from the scourge of terrorism.
