The majority of individuals affected by Hurricane Katrina and subsequent flooding are low income. Simply requesting for individuals to return the money FEMA provided is a social injustice. It is unfair to provide assistance and then request it back. It was FEMA's error, no one should suffer for their mistake.

We received 15 signatures in 24 hours. We need to continue to share the petition to obtain more signatures. We can not allow FEMA to set unrealistic standards for individuals affected by natural disasters. FEMA provided assistance and requested individuals affected by Hurricane Katrina to return a portion of the financial assistance. This is not acceptable. We have to speak up and let our voices be heard. Please continue to advocate for this cause!

I have helped with the re-build in St Bernard and the lower 9th ward . I have seen and heard what people have gone through . It is unfair for the people who are working so hard to get the life they lost back . Please do not punish them any more .

Having been closely working with Katrina victims for 3 yrs now, I can vouch for how much still needs to be done in St Bernard Parish and the lower Ninth. Many are dealing with Chinese drywall that must be replaced at their own expense. I agree that it is unfair to provide assistance and then request it back.
