One year has passed since arrest of Bakhtiyar Hajiyev
04 March 2012- Today one year has passed since arrest of Harvard alumni –MPP`09, Azerbaijani pro-democracy activist, former parliamentary candidate Bakhtiyar Hajiyev. Last year, today He was arrested soon after posting a Facebook appeal to police calling on them not to interfere in the proposed March 11 peaceful protests. He is officially charged with evading military service since 2006 (!), a tactic which Amnesty International has documented as a common measure to silence dissidents in Azerbaijan and sentenced to two years in prison on May. In spite of numerous high-level calls for their release, the Azerbaijani authorities conducted what has deemed by the observers a sham trial, violating Azerbaijan's own laws and the country's international obligations still holds Bakhtiyar behind bars, who paying a high price for his civic activism and pro-democracy views.
Hajiyev is again eligible for early release on March 4, 2012,because of serving half of his sentence. His appeal for parole
