On July 24th, Eliad Cohen -producer, actor, model, entrepreneur and co-founder of Gay-ville- published on his Instagram account a video that showed him slapping a woman. The video included a comment of his: "All in humor... Take it easy".

Violence against women is never fun. And that's what other Instagramers told him immediately. It took a while but finally Eliad Cohen pulled the video from his account. But that is not enough, he needs to publicly apologize and start a campaign to condemn violence against women.

Every year, millions of women are victims of abuse and violence. Hundreds of thousands die because of gender violence against them. This is a huge problem in all societies and we cannot afford to "take it easy".

Having a prominent individual slapping a woman on a video and assuming that that is fun is part of the problem as it shows how trivial violence against women is to many. That's why we need to tell Eliad Cohen that that is not right, that he needs to publicly apologize and start a campaign to condemn violence against women.

Whatever happened to "It is not right to hit a woman"? I remember when hitting women was taboo. What is stopping us from going back to when hitting a lady, except in self defense, was something terribly looked down on? Next thing, it is proper to punch women? Then stab them? Shoot them? Where does this stop? Fun? This type of senseless violence and misogyny for no good reason has to stop!

      * "...gender relationships, which are tough for people to deal with, are key to whether a society orients to domination or partnership in all its relations."

      -- Riane Eisler

"For most of recorded history, parental violence against children and men's violence against wives was explicitly or implicitly condoned. Those who had the power to prevent and/or punish this violence through religion, law, or custom, openly or tacitly approved it. …..The reason violence against women and children is finally out in the open is that activists have brought it to global attention."
