Dogs need room to run, play and socialize for their health and well-being. The only current off-leash dog park in West Hollywood, located at Hart Park, is insufficient to meet the needs of the city's dog population. According to Wikipedia, West Hollywood has a dog population of 1000 dogs per square mile. The need is clearly apparent to anyone who sees the number of dogs being walked daily on the streets of the City, West Hollywood prides itself on being a pet friendly City and a leader in animal rights, with a law that calls pets 'companions' and owners 'guardians'. It was the first City in the country to outlaw cat de-clawing and ban the sale of of clothing with animal fur. Yet the City provides few amenities for the needs of its dog population. They need room to romp, interact and above all, run. Let's live up to our reputation of being an animal friendly City. If we truly care for our dog companions, we will provide them the space they need to live long, healthy and happy lives. Build them a sufficiently sized off-leash area where it's needed. Let's show our companions that we really do love them.
