Demand D.J. Bell Receive His Fair Share of Utah Victims Reparations Fund

      Salt Lake City, UT

D.J. Bell, a South Salt Lake Resident was brutally beaten in a gay-bashing by his neighbors after they falsely believed that he had kidnapped two of their children in July 2008. South Salt Lake Police, detectives and prosecutors shortly thereafter put on a sham trial where David J. Bell was fully acquitted of the charges and where the jury called the whole trial a travesty of justice and waste of taxpayer funds. Now nearly 3 years have passed and D.J. Bell was recently denied access to the Utah Office of Victims Reparations Fund because as Dana Thomas stated: “You were charged with kidnapping children which appears to be the reason for the attack”. When challenged on this gross injustice her supervisor Melvin Wilson stated: the funds would be denied because Bell brought the attack on himself.

I am a victim of a false warrant where officer re-injured my wrist. I applied 2 years ago for assistance and applied total of 4 times and the reasons they denied were not legitimate reasons...nowhere does it say the police officer has to state in his report that he assaulted me, etc. This is wrong when I got injured by an officer and I didn't do anything wrong....

Even if he was charged with kidnapping and that brought on the attack, he didn't charge HIMSELF with kidnapping! That would be the local police and attorneys, THANK YOU. Not only do I think that Mr. Bell deserves funds for the original attack, he deserves reparations from Ms. Thomas and Mr. Wilso--who, incidentally, should not be working in any capacity involving the law if they can't even understand a basic precept such as this!

The ignorance of Melvin Wilson truly boggles the mind. Stating that D.J brought the attack upon himself is no different than stating that Medgar Evers brought his death upon himself. Hey, Melvin? If I punch you in the face because of your deluded logic - does that mean you brought it upon yourself?

no person should ever be treated in this manor. Gay people are no different than anyone else. they are just like everyone else except they chose to love the same gender it has not nor never will change the person inside. open your eyes and see the wonderful loving people you are missing
