Decision makers in New York counties of Albany, Rensselaer and Schenectady: Take steps to end tobacco marketing to kids.
The Issue
You may not notice all the tobacco marketing in the stores, but kids do. It's right there by the register, where they check out.
Each year in NYS, youth buy or smoke 31.6 million packs of cigarettes and 22,500 of them become new daily smokers.
Tobacco companies focus most of their marketing and promotion where young people shop – in convenience stores, where 75% of teens shop at least once per week.
Tobacco companies spend more than $1 million/day every year in New York State on product packaging and displays in stores.
There is approximately one licensed tobacco retailer for every 194 children in New York State.
The more tobacco marketing kids see, the more likely they are to smoke.
Sign this petition if you support the "We've Seen Enough Tobacco Marketing" campaign to stop tobacco retail marketing to youth by reducing the number of tobacco retailers and covering up tobacco product displays in stores.
