We, the Scouts and community members of Philadelphia, PA urge the Cradle of Liberty Council to reject the Boy Scouts of America's anti-gay policy and to release an official statement of this policy's rejection.
Every young man should have the opportunity to join the ranks of the Boy Scouts of America. The Scouts demand in their handbook that Scouts should be kind, friendly, and brave. This is the time for everyone to be brave, and stand up against this wretched policy that reeks of bigotry. Times are changing in this great country, and the Boy Scouts are going to be left in the dust if they don't come up past this ugly discrimination. Kids should not be taught hate and discrimination, but acceptance and love for all of mankind. This is the time for action against the policies of the BSA. Huge donors to the BSA such as Intel and UPS have already pledged to stop their funding, and it seems another funding partner, Verizon, will soon join those standing against these horrid policies.
In closing, I and many others love this organization. The organization is so beneficial to so many around the globe, but until acceptance makes its way into the ranks of the Scouts, there will be a large, dark blemish on the face of the organization. Remember the Scout Oath, and the Scout Law, and what they have taught you about being accepting and morally straight in the face of oppressive darkness. Bravery is speaking out against many because you know what is truly right for the world. Scouts are friends to all, please sign this petition to help speed the process of changing the BSA's backward policies. The time is now, lets not stutter in the path for justice. Lets do this for our local troops, our council, our country, and for the good of man.
Thank you for your support.
Among service organizations, the Boy Scouts are increasingly isolating themselves with their discriminatory policy. Organizations including the Girl Scouts, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, as well as the 4H Club all welcome gay kids as well as adult leaders.
We love the Boy Scouts, but we can’t support this policy. That's why we urge you to speak out against the ban on gay Scouts and leaders and adopt an inclusive policy like other troops, packs, councils, and lodges across the country have done -- so the Boy Scouts can maintain its relevancy, improve recruitment, and truly live by the principles it teaches its members.
NOTE: We encourage everyone to join this campaign, but if you're a current or former Scout or leader, please say so in the "Why People Are Signing" section. Thanks!
