Support the building of an on campus stadium at CSU

A new on campus facility will help reconnect fans and alumni while strengthening the student body of Colorado State. A new on campus facility may also help bring national attention to CSU the likes this university has never seen. According to the Stadium Committee a new on campus stadium may create:

  • Increased awareness and support for CSU’s world-class academic programs and research initiatives through improved visibility of athletic programs, of which improved facilities can play a major role.
  • Leveraging the lens of athletics, increased connectivity and engagement among alumni, donors and boosters.
  • Helping boost nonresident enrollment – which brings in additional revenue to support the core academic mission of the university – through enhanced national visibility of athletic program.
  • An enhanced physical and visual connection to CSU’s main campus for alumni, fans and community members.
  • Easier access for CSU students to athletic and other large-scale events.
  • Creating an unparalleled game-day experience, with the traditions that build engagement among students, alumni and supporters.
  • Improved access to Fort Collins commercial districts, driving additional visits to restaurants, retail business and other amenities.
  • Opportunity for creating a dynamic, mixed-use facility that would benefit the institution and community as a whole.
  • Capitalizing on Fort Collins’ reputation as one of the best cities in the nation by offering expanded, in-town facilities for diverse programming and destination events.

Other things to keep in mind about a new on campus stadium is that Tony Frank has laid out 4 recommendations that stadium must fall within:

  • CSU won’t consider putting the stadium on existing open green space, including the intramural fields.
  • CSU won’t consider putting the stadium in front of significant existing view sheds so as to protect views of the mountains.
  • All recommendations from the Advisory Committee must take into serious account any impact on neighbors in areas adjacent or near a new stadium.
  • State appropriation, tuition, fees or taxes will not be considered as funding sources for a stadium project.

Hopefully with enough support we can show not only CSU but, the city of Fort Collins is willing and ready to have its own on campus stadium.

With less than 24 hours from the first official meeting of the on-campus stadium it's very exciting to see how far this petition has grown. From less than 100 signatures last Monday to over 900 is fantastic. I've been given the opportunity to meet with athletic director Jack Graham and hopefully he will share this petition tomorrow at that meeting. It would be great for those that have signed already to give this petition out to as many friends, family and other alumni you have connections to so that we could hit the 1000 signature mark before the meeting. I definitely think hitting that goal would be great for the overall support for the stadium plans. Of course I have no intention of stopping there, I want as many signatures as physically possible, so lets make this happen and Go Rams!!

Tonight there was a meeting that opposes a new on campus stadium. Unfortunately, they weren't aware of the already large support for this project and most of their arguments were folly. I hope next week to bring to light why their reasons don't make sense so please, send this link to your friends who are Ram supporters, alumni, students even and let them know about this petition and that there will be a meeting Feb. 3rd in the Lory Student Center most likely in one of the main ball rooms. Go Rams!!

Again, I'm shocked and amazed how much people are responding to this. People from all over the country it seems are in favor of this as well as members of the Fort Collins community and of course students. It's even great to hear people from CU who are in favor of this which says a lot about how important football is to the state of Colorado and that it's not just a southern sport. My goal is by Feb. 3rd to have 1000+ signatures so that we have something to present to the meeting at the Lory Student Center. For those that can make the meeting please show up and support, the meeting is scheduled to start at 7:30 so lets show up and drown out everyone who is not in favor of this plan for a new stadium!

The fact that this petition has reached out to so many fans, supporters, and alumni of Colorado State University and the fact that we have already had over 100 more signatures in less than 24 hours is absolutely amazing. It is astounding that this petition has reached out to so many since starting this petition only a week ago. It was a slow and shaky start at first, but, it is amazing to see the direction we are going. Keep up the good work and make sure that you tell everyone you know that supports CSU to sign this petition.

    8. So as many of you can see we have finally reached 100 signatures

This means that many supporters of CSU are beginning to recognize how important this plan is. I feel that if we have enough supporters I may be able to present this to the large meeting that is supposed to take place once all of the logistics are worked out for the new stadium. Keep up the support and let all of your friends know about this petition and the plan for an on campus stadium at CSU.

      1) As an alumni I would love to walk the campus and then walk to the game

      2) When I was in school I disliked driving to a stadium that isn't near anything

It would be nice to have a stadium that has restrooms that don't flood and an opportunity before or after a game to show our grandkids why my husband and I (as well as their fathers) went to CSU.

CSU alumni and current resident. I strongly support this not only as a benefit to the University as a whole but a as boon the the Fort Collins economy. Of course there will be infrastructure changes but that happens with any large scale projects. Like those that have been happening in oldtown/downtown and the start of the Mason Street Project.
