City of Quincy, MA City Council and Mayor: Ban the use of firearms for any type of hunting within city limits

    1. Petition by

      Friends of Pageant Field

Hunting of any kind in City of Quincy parks and recreational areas—which are regularly used for year round passive recreation—is a danger to our residents and a disturbance to residents living nearby. Because we live in a city with a population of 80,000+ our citizens should be able to enjoy parks and recreational areas free of the fear and danger attributed to the sport of hunting.

To:
Kirsten L. Hughes, Councilor Hughes, Ward Five
Tom Koch, Mayor
Ban hunting within city limits

Sincerely,
[Your name]

I'm from Quincy but now live in Norway, mother & sister still live there in Wollaston and Quincy Center. Agree that the proximity to public areas makes this an accident waiting to happen. Is hunting there necessary for health of the flock or merrily for sport? If the answer is sport then the risk seems ludicrous.

Friends who live in Quincy use this area all the time to meet up for walks and conversation. This is accident waiting to happen and huntung has no place here or within any city limits.

The hunters at Pagent field are hunting ducks that are fed almost daily by families and kids. Shooting in a recreational area utilized daily throughout the year by people walking, running, playing with their children, walking their dogs, taking pictures of this beautiful area is not appropriate. Watching a tame duck being lured in by fake ducks floating in the water and then shoot at is not for this area.

There are so many people who use Pageant Field daily. People of all ages jogging thru the woods, people walking their dogs, cross country kids running through the woods. While I am not in favor of hunting myself, people have the right to do so, it just doesn't seem like the City of Quincy is a good place to be doing it. I think it's only a matter of time before there is an accident.
