Approximately 1600 hectares of green space on the island of Montreal is protected (as a park or otherwise). That number equates to approximately 3% of the island which is a really low percentage.

There is also an equivalent quantity of unprotected woodlands on the Island. Angell Woods is the largest contiguous woodgrove among the unprotected 1600 hectares which has been identified as being of “ecological interest” by the City of Montreal’s “Atlas des Bois”. It has also been designated as an exceptional forest ecosystem (EFE) by the Ministry of Natural Resources (From APAW website).

Recently, a settlement allowed a developer to build 68 condominiums on part of the site (Beaconsfield part). This also means around 1000 more cars on the road.

WE NEED TO ACT!

It's a beautiful green space, whoch so many residents (and non-residents) enjoy.

As a visitor to the Montreal area many times, this area is unique and should be protected for future visitors and all residents

It is vital that we maintain green space on the island of Montreal. It creates a much healthier environment for us all.
