Allow Hudson Residents to Raise Backyard Chickens

    1. Vanessa Baehr
    2. Petition by

      Hudson, NY

There is a proposed law to allow backyard chickens to be raised in Hudson, NY. Support food freedom! As humans it is our birthright to be able to raise food for ourselves. This would allow us to become closer connected to our food sources, get fresh eggs and save money among other perks.

Roosters, ducks and guinea hen are excluded from this law. There are spacial requirements for the land as well as a standard of cleanliness to be maintained. Permits would be purchased through City Hall. Like any pet owner, you are expected to be responsible for the well being of your pet as well as being respectful to your neighbor.

You can show your support at any of the Common Council Meetings in June (held at City Hall) or you can write to your local Alderman to express yourself further. Go to www.cityofhudson.org for more info.

Thank you for your time.

I would like to have chickens for pets and to provide my family with fresh eggs.

Chickens are raised 2 doors from me in Athens -- just across the river from Hudson. Their quiet clucking is a pleasant old-time sound.

This issue is important to me as my grandchildren are being raised in Hudson N.Y. and my children grow fruit and vegetables for them and woul like to add eggs that they know are safe whist saving money.
