Victory

On March 14, Wentzville Aldermen voted 5-1 in favor of eliminating the city's breed specific legislation. This comes after more than 2,500 signed resident Tyanna Flynn's petition in support of local efforts to overturn the law.

After the vote, Tyanna said, "Pitbull breeds will no longer be discriminated against in Wentzville, MO.  It is unexplainable the joy in hearing it pass last night.  It is nice to know that the Board of Aldermen heard us and voted to treat our breeds like all others.  It will be wonderful to open our windows and doors and let our family members enjoy the outdoors without having to be muzzled and against the law."

Wentzville residents worked for months to ensure the city's review of its animal control regulations would result in breed-neutral changes. In addition to the petition, they attended meetings, made phone calls and captured media attention. City officials listened, and dogs will now be judged based on behavior, not appearance. Tyanna added, "I hope we will see this in other cities as well."

Residents of Wentzvile, MO are being targeted because of "bully" ownership.  The city has had a breed specific law (BSL) for years, it has come to light that some residents are being targeted by neighbors, the City, and even animal control to comply with a law that should be for AGGRESSIVE DOGS, not BREED SPECIFIC......so starting the fight!

On Dec 7th, the breed specific ordinance will be discussed during work session @ 6pm. Please sign the petition urging Wentzville  to repeal the archaic breed-discriminatory ordinance that targets pit bulls. Dogs should be judged by their behavior, not their appearance.

See the links for news report done about a woman targeted to get DNA on her Great Dane mix dogs because the Wentzville police say they look like "pit bulls":

Another couple just moved here in July and is ready to move due to a neighbor calling police because she had her home window open and was therefore disobeying the law due to having a pit bull. Another moved out of the City to another City in MO.

These dogs are not aggressive, one is even a search and rescue dog! Aggressive dogs are taught by their IRRESPONSIBLE GUARDIANS, and any dog can be aggressive! PLEASE HELP STOP BSL!

Pitbull breeds will no longer be discriminated against in Wentzville, MO. It is unexplainable the joy in hearing it pass last night. It is nice to know that the Board of Aldermen heard us and voted to treat our breeds like all others. It will be wonderful to open our windows and doors and let our family members enjoy the outdoors without having to be muzzled and against the law. It really helped that we had such great means to get the word out to the City and residents about why we wanted this changed. The people effected spoke up. Newspaper, internet (Facebook, blogs, online articles, etc.), petitions (online and paper), phone calls, emails, and showing up at the meetings so the Aldermen could see residents wanted CHANGE made a difference. I hope we will see this in other cities as well.

    8. City considers no BSL, but a strict owner responsiblity law.

Last night at the Board's discussion meeting, they discussed the ordinance in depth, had a guest speaker who was very informative and controls the stray animal pick up within the city, along with a shelter for an adjoining city. The adjoining city has a strict owner responsiblity law, and that seems to be where we are headed from the discussion. It was stressed Breed Specific is too hard to manage and unfair to the pets and owners. I believe that the city sees this and I believe the original ordinance was put in place due to an "incident". (panic legislation) I have attached the link from the news report that fox2/11 did last night, however I think the reporter did not gather all the correct information. A lot of breeds were discussed, however it was for comparison, not to initiate more BSL. Please keep sharing the petition, I am still asking for support for this fight, it's not over. A draft of the new ordinance is being presented Jan 25th, 2012.

We are printing what we have tonight to give to the board tomorrow. Discussion is on Wednesday and we will be there in our Anti-BSL shirts! I cannot tell you how many people and animals this CHANGE will effect. And I will not stop here, I see more and more of the towns around us that need our help. Slater Missouri stated they want to impose a 100lb dog restriction! NO BIG DOGS? Really? (I see another fight in my future!) I want to thank everyone for their support and all of their input. Keep sharing the petition, I will keep it open and fighting until I see CHANGE in Wentzville!

In photos, the Kearneys' dogs look like Great Danes, big and gangly, but  they haven't had DNA testing done to prove their heritage, so who knows what breeds they really are? But Andrea Kearney made a mistake on Facebook that has cost her pets...

That would be a 100 people a day trying to CHANGE this BSL. I want to remind you this is not just about BULLY breeds, in many cities and states they include the Rott, Dobie, German Shepard, Akita, Husky, Malamute, Chow, etc. People these animals are not aggressive unless we make them that way!
We have a facebook page now as well, although the petition page is really where we need the signatures!
Best I can ask of you is to CLICK, SIGN AND SHARE! Thank you.

STOP BSL on change.org.........stop the breed profiling of pets and their owners. Google it. It's being fought across the country and even worldwide. It is inhumane to treat animals and people like this. Keeping people and their pets locked up like criminals when there is no wrong-doing and no aggression to anyone, should be against the law.
      (Yes it's my opinion!)

My son has a pit bull. Very friendly, and gentle. Loves people, has never been aggressive or mean. If you have ever been aquainted wiith a pit bull you would know what a loyal family pet they are.

My son wants to move here to Wentzville to be near his family. He will not move here due to this this law and the fact that he has a pit bull that is very mild mannered and good with children and is not a danger to anyone.

Because this breed was America's dog at one time, until the Media, Gangs, and ignorance placed a dark cloud over this breed.
