Stop threatening Illinois immigrant groups

    1. Petition by

      George Kuhlman

      Chicago

Catholic Church leaders have decided to use immigrants and those who seek to help them as pawns in a political battle. Church leaders recently threatened to discontinue funding for several charitable organizations that belong to the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR), which has decided to support equal treatment under the law for gay and lesbian couples in Illinois. The Church has insisted that member organizations disassociate from the ICIRR because of its support for civil marriage for gays and lesbians in Illinois - or lose their funding. We are urging Church leaders to withdraw this unjust threat against charitable organizations that serve our most vulnerable brothers and sisters.

In countries where people have to flee their homes because of persecution and violence, political solutions must be found, peace and tolerance restored, so that refugees can return home. In my experience, going home is the deepest wish of most refugees.

We are not to judge. Loving and forgiving is our God and HE alone will judge us, ALL OF US. Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me. Those are Jesus' words!

If you're not listening to Christ's message, then at least listen to Pope Francis - we are not to judge but we are to be kind, compassionate, fair, and loving

I'm descended from immigrants and work with immigrants as well. As a gay Catholic, I'm appalled at the way the Church feels it must insinuate itself in civil matters..especially when it will affect the LGBT community.
