Young Justice and Green Lantern: The Animated Series have been two extraordinarily popular adaptations of the DC Universe, attracting fans of all ages and gaining an incredible internet following. These shows are well written and extraordinarily well animated, and feature a variety of excellent characters, with both series featuring strong female characters and Young Justice further having a diverse cast and showcasing many characters who can no longer be found within the comics themselves. We feel that the contribution they represented was important, and that their popularity should have guaranteed them renewal. While we appreciate the return of the also popular Teen Titans Go and the opportunity presented by Beware the Batman, we see no reason that these shows should not be able to coexist.

isI know it may just seem like a cartoon, but animation is important.

For decades, kids have been growing up in American inner-cities without positive male role models (or worse, with father-figures who abuse them). The statistics do not lie; young men and women who grow up without a father, or with an abusive father, are at vastly greater risk of teen pregnancy, dropping out of school, and criminalization.

For many of these children, the characters that they come to know and love in these cartoons represent the only shred of positive male influence that they will absorb in the day-to-day. A very dear friend of mine, a man who's mother was literally sold to his father for a case of beer, constitutes one example of this. Being raised in an abusive household, he was forced to retreat to his cartoons for stability and reason. For years, until his father was replaced by an unabusive man, this individual was essentially raised by Optimus Prime. To this day, he calls upon that fact to support good animation; Optimus Prime, a cartoon character who leads not from the volume of his voice but from the gravity and strength of his moral constitution, taught children what a real man aught to be.

Shows like Spongebob and Kung Fu Panda are great for sitting the kids down and zonking them out for an hour, but they offer no substance, no insight. It's the other programs, the ones that deal with the varying shades of gray that occur in real life, with vexing moral conundrums that are not easily circumvented that I speak of. Shows that depict how a strong, righteous man should behave in the face of crisis. Shows that refuse to shy away and shelter children from the territory of regret, shame, and death, deciding instead to write characters who are burdened with pain and then learn to overcome it. These are the programs that we, as a society, can ill-afford to lose.

Programs like Young Justice. this important to you? (Optional)

These two shows were by far the best of the best cartoons on tv. Having these shows canceled is just unbarible.
