Dan Richards did nothing wrong and nothing illegal. His legal and permitted killing of a mountain lion in Idaho may have been in poor judgement given his position as president of the California Fish and Game Commission, but it certainly does not constitute removing him from his office. Dan Richards is an strong advocate for hunting rights on the Commission, especially given the fact that there is a strong anti-hunting sentiment in the state. Hunters such as myself and my two sons provide millions of dollars in license fees and tag fees that are used for critical habitat as well as providing a necessary service of wildlife management from which the State of California profits. If Mr. Richards is fired as president it will undoubtedly result in a serious imbalance in the Commission where the hunting public would be unfairly left without good representation on issues that very directly affect our lives. At worst Mr. Richards might deserve a reprimand, but not removal.
