On September 21, 2012, Governor Jerry Brown of California signed the Cottage Food Bill AB 1616. After the efforts of thousands of supporters and backed by Mike Gatto, CA State Assemblyman, we succeeded and triumphed for California's right to produce and sell non-potentially hazardous food {you know these as baked goods, cookies, cakes, jams, nuts, popcorn, etc.}, thus supporting local businesses and boosting our communities. This victory in California, which was spurred by the success of about 30 other U.S. states and has inspired many more states to begin their own grassroots movements, shall be a declaration to our nation that we, as citizens and residents, are supportive of our neighbors and communities, that we desire to see, help, and aid in their existence, that we are reliant on one another, and dream of a free nation where our abilities, talents, and freedom to express them will be limitless. We are so thankful for the passing of this Cottage Food Bill, for the positive changes we are experiencing, for the rebuilding of lost hope, and the reunification of our fellow Americans.

Cottage Food is homemade with love. It is made by artisans, passionate about their craft who are eager to share. Cottage Food is food for our soul, and September 21st is a day to be recognized and celebrated. Before there were jars and cans on the shelves of your local grocery store, there were neighbors inviting neighbors over for dinner, swapping recipes, and sharing their latest creations; jams, pickles, brittle. We build and achieve dreams based upon our memories, and no memory is greater than our first homemade biscuit, warm slice of bread, fresh slice of pie, or a classic chocolate chip cookie with an ice cold glass of milk.

We can do this together!

September 21, come and celebrate Cottage Food Day!!

California State Legislature and all Believers in the American Dream
Declare September 21st "Cottage Food Day", so that we can collectively recognize the efforts and successes of every-day Americans building up one another and supporting each other with homemade and home baked food made with love.

I am cottage food business starter, and am a huge supporter of homemade foods and local and small businesses. We don't need another Safeway or Walmart. But we do need local stores selling homemade and local products.

This is important to me because I am a part-time employed, stay-at-home mother who has a passion for all things food and desire to provide a secure life-style for my family by being able to work and remain involved in their lives as much as possible.
