Keep the status quo
Keep the status quo
The Issue
BVSD is changing the schedule for next year. While you may think this as no big deal, it actually has many lasting, and negative consequences for high school students. I wrote out a whole letter detailing the many faults with the three plans, and why we should keep the status quo. But if you don't want to read it, here are the basic highlights.
Its hot in June too, moving back the start date won't do much anyway(the whole point of the change is that elementary schools are too hot in August)
The first two weeks of school, especially in elementary school, you don't learn much anyway
Sports already start in early August, some even earlier, moving up the start date would make us lose valuable practice time
We would have two to three weeks less to prepare for AP/IB/ACT/SAT tests
There would be almost a month of extra, useless class time after the AP/IB tests
In Plan A, first semester would be 18 days shorter than second semester, rendering two identical semester long classes totally different
In Plans B and C first semester finals would be after Winter Break, rendering a must needed, stress-free break, full of stress again
Every student will be in high school soon enough.
Here is my letter if you want to read it...
