The Boys & Girls Club offers vital after school care regardless of someone's ability to pay and these programs will be jeopardized by these new fees.

The School Board postponed the decision on this item to their July meeting and directed staff to work with the Boys & Girls Club on this matter. Let's hope an agreement can be reached that doesn't impact the ability to provide affordable after school care in our community.

    4. School Board proposing huge fees for Boys & Girls Club After School Program

      Dave Golonski
      Petition Organizer

Burbank’s affordable after school programs once again at risk! Please let your elected leaders know the importance of these programs to our community. The Boys & Girls Club provides after school care for 750+ kids a day. Over 50% of the kids are on scholarships because of their family’s inability to pay. This is the only after school program in the city that provides scholarships due to financial need.
The School District is once again proposing to charge the Boys & Girls Club large fees to operate on the school sites. The proposed new charges of $88,500 equate to almost 50% of the total cost to run the programs and will cause the elimination of a number of programs. The School District and The City both run fee based programs, but neither provide assistance for lower income families, that need is met entirely by the Boys & Girls Club programs.

These programs aid low income families - if they must pass these fees on - these children will not be able to benefit from these very fine programs!

I am a teacher and supporter of public programs that create a strong society. I feel it is our responsibility as citizens to make sure that our children are given every opportunity to reach their goals. This program is one of the ways we can do this.

Let's spend money on after school programs instead of on locking kids up after they get in trouble.
