The Boy Scouts of America (“BSA”) has long been an organization that builds character in young men and trains them in the responsibilities of being good citizens. Allowing sodomites (also known as “homosexuals” or “gays”) to openly serve in the scouts should not be allowed. Such a policy would introduce into an organization that, for over 100 years, has been a positive influence in our country an unprecedented, unsafe and unhealthy environment for our children.
Civilized societies have historically outlawed sodomy because it is unnatural and dangerous. According to research done by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 61% of AIDS in America is spread by the “gay” population. Approximately 2% of America’s population is “gay.” That means that 61% of this typically-fatal disease comes from 2% of America’s population. The health risks alone for such a policy are more than enough of a reason to not enact it.
The Scout Oath says,
“On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.”
As this oath recognizes, all of us have a duty to God and to our country. Organizations like the Scouts have long recognized that instilling strong morals and values in the next generation is vital to the welfare of not only our children, but the entire country. We have a duty to protect those morals and values that have been promoted by the Scouts and that have made our country strong.
For these reasons we , the undersigned, petition you to maintain the standards and criteria currently in place for allowing people to be involved with the Scouts and investing in the lives of our children. To do otherwise would require the Scouts to violate the spirit of their time-honored oath.
