West Orange High School is grossly overcrowded and the Beck Property on 535 allows the quickest relief to the situation. Picking another location at this point could not only add years to the completion of the new school but cost tax payers tens of millions of dollars in unbudgeted expenses. This expense can prevent other schools in the county from being built in a timely manner. Overcrowded schools harm not only the children but the community as well when they cannot receive the best preparation for college. They are our future professionals, engineers, small business owners, etc that attract new technology to our area. School overcrowding also lowers property values which in turn harms tax revenue for the county as less people are inclined to buy homes in those areas. Time to lay politics aside and do what is right for our kids.
Allow the West Orange High relief school on the proposed 535 Beck Property location
With the latest meeting of the Commissioners and the School Board they came to an agreement to look at items that can be done to the school design if it was built on 535 near Summerport while also looking at what it will cost if they went with another alternate site near the Publix in lakeside village. The school board has estimated that cost could reach $20million and may delay the opening of the high school. As well this extra money means that othe middle and elementary schools would not be built and open as planned.
This petition is still alive. Even though the commissioners have have voted against our children the school board has served them with a letter of intent to sue. This means this is being elevated to a mediation level and possibly onto a three federal judge panel in court. The petition can be used in the legal proceedings showing the great support for the desired location.
Over 800 signatures from a grass roots effort of busy moms and dads that have so much else going on but take time to care for the education of their children. It is truly sad that we have to make this fight do to others who only think of themselves and do not care about the future of our children, the community nor our country. Please keep passing this around to make sure the children are heard and cared for.
Crossed over 700 members so far in such a short time. Your support helped us in securing the BZA committee recommendation for the location of the new school. This recommendation will be brought the Orange County Commisioners agenda for a final vote in November. So we are not done yet. Please pass this around to every Orange County resident that you can think of. They can be your significant other, extended family, friends, co-workers, etc. Those opposed to this have money and influence so we need to show our elected officials that we have numbers.
Glad to say that we are at 329 online signatures and have a few hundred more on paper. We need to push on this so that we can deliver these to the Board of Zoning Adjustment members before 9-6 which is next Friday. Below are some email contacts for them and the county commissioners that I urge you to drop them a note showing your support.
In our first 24 hours we have 258 signatures. I think most people will sign up for this worthy cause once they are aware of it so please keep passing the info around. I challenge everyone that has signed to get three other people to sign it. This would put us over the 1000 mark.
