Assemblyman P. Goldfeder, QCB14, Independent Farmers: Establish a Farmers’ Market in Queens Community District 14

    1. Petition by

Farmers' Market Initiative for Queens Community District 14

Our intention is to use this petition to inform the proper entities of the demand for Farmers’ Markets in Queens Community District 14.

Grocery shopping in Rockaway & Broad Channel is extremely limited and access to high quality, locally grown food at a reasonable price is nonexistent. A Farmers’ Market would fill an important need for expanded access to healthy produce in our underserved neighborhoods while supporting local food producers and farmers.

A Famers’ Market would also yield significant economic benefit for our community. It would provide an opportunity for townspeople to shop locally versus being constrained to markets in Brooklyn and/or Nassau County. Likewise, it would attract tourist that would increase traffic and sales in our local shops and create favorable circumstances for new small businesses.

I often have to pay a toll, going into Bklyn or Howard Beach to find quality produce. I am getting tired of having to leave Rockaway to go grocery shopping.

The Rockaway community could really benefit from a Farmer's Market. Even before the hurricane we had very limited options as far as nutritious, delicious and inexpensive fresh foods go.

Farmers Markets are not only good for the community they are serving, but they also help support small and independent farms.
