February 2012

"I am extremely happy to let you know that we won our appeal!! Saint Hubert Catholic School for Girls is staying open! We raised over 1.2 million dollars to help keep this amazing school open for many more years to come. I really want to thank you and everyone at so so much, more then you know, for letting us to make this petition. had a lot to do with our efforts to save our beloved high school and it really helped us to reach out to thousands of people! I was overwhelmed when we got so many signatures! We now have registration dates for this upcoming school year and the rest of the girls attending the school now will be able to graduate and call themselves a St. Hubert Bambi just like myself! Everyone involved with saving the school worked so hard. The day we found out was the most amazing day ever, much different than the day we found out we were closing, sad tears were defiantly replaced by smiles and tears of joy!"

Saint Hubert was first opened in 1941. Today, it is Philadelphia’s number one largest Catholic high school for girls. With over 800 current students and an extremely strong 30,000 alumnae, the school is far from just a building, it is a beloved tradition and second home to us.

The reason we were told that our beloved school was going to be shut down was because of low enrollment and financial issues. The whole idea didn’t make any sense to anyone. There are plenty of current students that walk the halls of the school, and more than enough alumnae to keep this tradition going. If the archdiocese really goes through with it and closes Saint Hubert’s, a piece of everyone, a piece of our community, and a huge part of our lives will be lost. I truly hope that our efforts continue to keep Saint Hubert open, for the simple fact that I want every girl possible to experience the amazing things that myself and all alumnae did.

As an alum of Little Flower, I know the importance of keeping an "all girl" catholic school open in Philadelphia. St. Huberts is an institution where young girls are transformed into women with confidence in themselves and their abilities. It is also my sincerest hope that this school will remain open so that my granddaughter, Darien Young, a sophmore, will be able to receive her diploma from her alma mater, St. Huberts. Good Luck.
