Lawn care pesticides are known toxic substances implicated in childhood cancers, asthma, birth defects and Parkinson's disease. They are known to blow over neighbor's areas, contaminate the watershed and especially target children's developing bodies. Their strictly cosmetic function can be performed by affordable organic alternatives. Leave a message to persuade the City Council to pass the Safe Grow Initiative Ordnance.

Dear Mayor and Takoma Park City Council:

I urge you to pass the Safe Grow Zone ordinance to restrict the use of harmful cosmetic lawn pesticides in our city. Please protect our children, wildlife, pets, and waterways from further harm. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Chemical lawns not only kill weeds, but all effect all the terrestrial species living in the soil and feeding on the soil. Additionally, runoff flows to our streams (Sligo Creek), harms childern, cats, dogs, etc. There is no need to have a monoculture of cultivated grass for no reason other than conforming to some physical standard not even associate with historic Maryland.
