72 hour hold is not enough for a mentally ill person if they are not on/staying on their medications. The parent/guardian needs to have the authority to put their child in a facility for the period of time necessary even though they are 18 or older for their own sake and that of others.

We need to review and overhaul most all of our laws/regulations regarding mental health and mentally ill persons. Most citizens would be shocked to learn how ridiculous many of these regulations/laws are. Instead of helping, they put mentally ill people, people who love and care for them, and at times the general public, at risk. Changing this law is just the beginning.

I've seen what happens when a child who has been mentally ill before the age of 18, and then after 18 the parents are helpless...the child was a danger to himself and unable to care for himself or stay on medication. The laws need to change NOW so that Sandy Hook never ever happens again in this country!

ThIs law doesn't allow enough time to truly diagnose a patient!

Parents/guardians cannot at this time have their child committed to protect themselves and others the way the law is today.
