Aberdeen City Council are trying to make volunteers liable for the External Repairs of City Council Community Centre Buildings. Community centre committees have been told that unless they sign an agreement which states that the committee (volunteers) will be liable for any repairs which the council will not pay for.

My children grew up in Garthdee and used Inchgarth Centre...and my grandchildren now do on occasion. I have friends who attend classes/groups there where it is a large part of their social life, without it they will be left isolated. Its an absolute disgrace that the council should put the onus for repairs of COUNCIL OWNED buildings onto volunteers!

Volunteers do such a rewarding job and save the council money by volunteering. They (the volunteers) do not deserve this hassle.

Councils should not pass on their responsibility to the community - they are employed by the community to care for the community. Volunteers are unpaid workers assisting the Council with what should be the responsibility of the council. Taxes from the community should assist in upkeep.
