Zorro is a character that selflessly risked his own safety and life in order to oppose the tyrannical power in Los Angeles and defend those who were weak and helpless. The letter Z, the mark of Zorro, gave hope to peons, simple vaqueros as well as noblemen for justice. Even though he is just a fictional character, Zorro lives in the consciousness of many people. Just like it was one hundred years ago, nowadays, he still embodies ideals that many would like to pass on to their children and next generations. 

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the Russians have used the Latin letter Z to mark a part of their forces, even though there is no such sign in the Cyrillic (the letter Z is signed with З). It is a neutral mark which may provoke some memes or jokes at most. However, recently, the Russian authorities have used the letter Z for aggressive propaganda.  

As long-term Zorro fans, we are observing with shame and sadness how history repeats itself and symbols change meanings. Hitler once used an innocent Indian symbol of prosperity and good luck. As a result, the swastika symbol forever will associate with genocide and horrible crimes in the human history.  

We protest against using the letter Z - the mark of Zorro, which has always carried the positive message - to legitimize and promote Russia’s murderous regime and its war with Ukraine.

Zorro es un personaje que desinteresadamente arriesgó su propia seguridad y vida para oponerse al poder tiránico en Los Ángeles y defender a los débiles e indefensos. La letra Z, la marca del Zorro, dio esperanza en la justicia tanto a peones como a vaqueros y nobles. Aunque solo es un personaje ficticio, el Zorro vive en la conciencia de muchas personas. Al igual que hace cien años, hoy en día todavía encarna ideales que muchos quisieran transmitir a sus hijos y las próximas generaciones.

Desde el comienzo de la guerra en Ucrania, los rusos han utilizado la letra latina Z para marcar una parte de sus fuerzas, aunque no existe tal signo en el cirílico (la letra Z se firma con З). Es una marca neutra que como mucho puede provocar algunos memes o bromas. Sin embargo, recientemente, las autoridades rusas han utilizado la letra Z para propaganda agresiva.

Como seguidores del Zorro desde hace mucho tiempo, estamos observando con vergüenza y tristeza cómo la historia se repite y los símbolos cambian de significado. Hitler usó una vez un inocente símbolo indio de prosperidad y buena suerte. Como resultado, el símbolo de la esvástica siempre se asociará con el genocidio y los crímenes horribles en la historia de la humanidad.

Protestamos contra el uso de la letra Z, la marca del Zorro, que siempre ha llevado un mensaje positivo, para legitimar y promover el régimen asesino de Rusia y su guerra con Ucrania.

Zorro jest postacią, która bezinteresownie i z narażeniem własnego bezpieczeństwa i życia sprzeciwiała się tyranii narzuconej przez skorumpowane władze Los Angeles oraz broniła słabych i pokrzywdzonych. Jego znak, litera “Z” dawała nadzieję na sprawiedliwość peonom, prostym vaqueros i szlachcie. Mimo że Zorro to postać fikcyjna, jednak istnieje w masowej świadomości. Tak jak 100 lat temu, również współcześnie jest wzorem ideałów, które wielu chce przekazać swoim dzieciom i kolejnym pokoleniom. 

Od początku wojny na Ukrainie, Rosjanie posługiwali się łacińską literą “Z” do oznaczania jednej z części swoich jednostek, mimo że w alfabecie cyrylicy nie ma takiego znaku graficznego (litera “z” jest to znak “З”). Jest to neutralne oznaczenie, które może co najwyżej sprowokować serię memów i żartów. Jednak w ostatnich dniach rosyjskie władze sprowadziły użycie litery “Z” do bardzo agresywnej propagandy. 

Jako długoletni fani Zorro, z przykrością widzimy, jak historia się powtarza, a symbole zmieniają znaczenie. Kiedyś Hitler posłużył się niewinnym, indyjskim symbolem szczęścia i pomyślności. Dlatego na zawsze już swastyka będzie kojarzyła się z ludobójstwem, zbrodniami i czarną kartą w dziejach ludzkości. 

Wyrażamy sprzeciw, aby znak Zorro, litera “Z”, która zawsze miała pozytywny wydźwięk, była wykorzystywana do legitymizowania i promowania zbrodniczego reżimu rosyjskiego oraz wojny z Ukrainą.
