Why this petition matters

Started by Battle Rabbit

In March of 2022 a YouTuber by the name of Quantum TV did a review of the popular game Elden Ring in which he was very critical of not just game, but the people who enjoy the game by saying 'just go kill yourselves'. A smaller YouTuber who goes by the name Mischief did a response video in which he counters the statements made by Quantum TV, who was quick to issue threaten to copyright strike the video & take legal action. Mischief took down his original video but did respond to these threats.

Among those critics was The Act Man, who included clips of various reviews of the game in The Worst Elden Ring Hot Takes where he pokes fun at the clips. By this time, it had become known that Quantum TV was claiming to own the footage in these videos and that their use did not meet the criteria for being fair use.

Things quickly escalated, with numerous YouTubers picking up on the story and it was soon revealed by other YouTubers who have had encounters with Quantum TV in the past that he has been known to falsely flag videos & abuse other content creators. The biggest revelations however, regarded things posted to social media in 2018 that were unbelievably homophobic. It was at this time that The Act Man declared his intentions to remove Quantum TV from the platform.

Despite all of the evidence gathered by The Act Man and covered in videos from other content creators, YouTube did not take action. Instead, they took down a video from The Act Man in which he goes into further detail for 'nudity or sexual content' – when there was none in the video – and age restricted two more videos. Shortly after, YouTube demonetized The Act Man for a now deleted satirical Tweet criticizing YouTube's handling of the situation.
