Everyone needs access to captions. If creators checked over the community contributions to check for useless jokes and commentary, this wouldn't be an issue. Instead of getting rid of community contributions, block and report the people who think captions are one big joke. It's a mockery of what deaf and hard of hearing people need to be able to watch and enjoy videos the same way hearing people do.

Removing community captions would exclude viewers who are deaf, hard of hearing, who don't speak English as a first language, and who have auditory processing disorder like me; basically I can hear spoken word just fine but can't understand it half the time, which is why I turn CCs on for every YouTube video I watch that has them available. YouTube should be just as accessible to multilingual viewers and those with disabilities; for this they need to keep community captions.

I’m sound sensitive due to myalgic encephalomyelitis and not having captions can limit my ability to obtain valuable information. I found this petition because I was try to listen to a researcher that had poor sound quality and was unable to tolerate the content.

YouTube needs to review this decision. Such feature is vital for the international community!

Getting rid of CCCC was a horrible idea, why YouTube!? I always used these with videos that featured songs in different languages, it was really useful, why would you get rid of it?? Spam isn't a good reason, just give the option for creators to get rid of closed captions provided by the community in case it's problematic. Removing something because it supposedly is rarely used isn't a good reason to get rid of something either. Not everyone speaks English, and what about deaf people?? Now they can't watch most videos! Auto captions aren't that great, but with Community Captions people could actually read. Give back the option to make these, I often think about how much better YouTube would be if they kept this.

I am deaf and need captions to make Youtube videos accessible. Automated captions are so full of errors, they are impossible to understand.
