Celia LaBarbera started this petition to YouTube

I lost my hearing when I was 15 years old. Before that, like many teens I enjoyed watching YouTube videos in my free time. After I lost my hearing I discovered how many videos didn’t have captions and the ones that did we not very good. Last year YouTube took away community captions which made everything worse.

with community captions anybody could contribute to help make YouTube videos more accessible! This helped many people, including people who speak different languages than the video, deaf/ hard of hearing people, and more! Now that they took that away it’s much harder to watch videos.

YouTube has automatic captions right now. These don’t show up on many videos for days after they are uploaded. Even after they do, they are not accurate and they are hard to piece together.

I want YouTube to put back community captions OR have better captions! Please keep in mind that even though the title says “deaf people need captions” This will not only benefit the deaf community. This would benefit people all over the world who speak other languages.

I appreciate it if you have read this far! It would really help to get this signed and shared! Please help us all, Thank you so much! I believe that together we can make a difference!
