Girls need a safe place!!

The Germaine Lawrence School in Arlington MA has served thousands of adolescent girls in need of a safe and supportive environment for 40 years. It is unclear as to why, but Youth Villages has recently decided that they are going to close the doors of the residential campus, which currently houses 60 girls in need of emotional support and a place to provide a safe environment to live. The resources available in order to move and support these girls is extremely limited and the Department of Children and Families is scrambling to identify appropriate placements for these girls in a very short amount of time. As a past resident of the Germaine Lawrence School, I can attest to the importance of this campus remaining open and continuing to serve this population of adolescent girls that so desperately need the support and guidance that has been provided by the Germaine Lawrence School for decades. Youth Villages needs to stand by their own slogan: that there is “no lost cause.” Because it seems as though they think those 60 girls they are currently housing, and the hundreds more that could tremendously benefit from their services, are, indeed, lost causes. I’m here to tell them that Germaine Lawrence knew I wasn’t a lost cause, and I am here today because of them. Don’t give up on the girls now that will become the strong women of tomorrow if they are helped...
