Youth Suicide Prevention Education

Suicide is a problem.. It's very preventable with education and conversation.. We have lost way too many children to suicide and have done nothing to help stop it. Our schools have assemblies AFTER the fact, to mourn the loss, but decline any type of additional support being offered by agencies that specialize in suicide prevention. We need to do more. Our children deserve more. Mental health is just as important as physical health. Depression, anxiety, bullying, stress, abuse, whatever the case may be, these are realities that some kids just don't have the ability to understand or navigate through alone. They require assistance. School should be a safe place where our kids can go and learn about life and feel supported. Some parents aren't equipped to have these conversations either. This is where professionals come into play. What we are requesting is that an agency that specializes in suicide prevention come into the classrooms and conduct a full presentation and give resources for the students other than the simple "call the national life line". We need to have an in-depth conversation about suicide and what that means. Our children need to understand that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. They are not alone.
