Why this petition matters

Started by Nate Wasoski

In the first six months of 2022, there have been a reported total of 254 ram raids, a 518% increase from the first six months of 2018. A police report revealed that 76% of the offenders were under 18 years old, and 17% were under 13! We are a group of Year 13s from Glendowie College, and we are striving for change. Plenty of shops in our local area have been victims of at least one ram raid. The Glendowie superette on Riddell Road, the chemist on Ashby Ave, the old dairy on Roberta Ave that was hit so many times it was forced to close. Just today, Labour introduced a package of $600,000 for support services for youth offenders in South and West Auckland. Still, nothing significant has been done in our community to prevent ram raids or punish those who commit them. Our group is supporting the Act Law and Order policy. The policy would introduce a "combination of penalties to reflect compensation for losses". If YOU want change, sign to show your support.
