Graduating college is no minor celebration. Class of 2020 has invested several thousands of dollars, time, energy, and dedication in order to achieve this accomplishment. However, without a commencement, graduates are not being celebrated and awarded for all of their hard work. President Jim Tressel has decided that due to Governor Dewine’s updated Covid-19 guidelines, spring 2021 graduates will be able to have an in person graduation outside. However, YSU nor President Tressel have announced if they have any plans to make up a ceremony for the class of 2020. Class of 2020 is deserving as a graduation as well and it would be unjust to solely reward spring 2021 graduates and not the class of 2020. We have all endured the struggles of completing our education in the duration of the pandemic and deserve to be celebrated as well.
