I have severe Osteogenesis Imperfecta and Dentinogenesis Imperfecta and for those reading my dental issues I would be very grateful if you could share your support by signing my petition.

Everyone's support and their signatures will hopefully help to make a difference with my future ongoing dental care at the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital in Sheffield to be seen by specialists who are familiar in seeing people like me with brittle bones.

I have significant brittle teeth associated with my medical condition and over the past few years I have required multiple tooth extractions through inadequate check-ups and dental treatment I have received locally to home.

Throughout the past 18 to 24 months I have been battling to be seen again at the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital in Sheffield for all check-ups and dental treatment but my complaints was not upheld but followed by a refusal by both the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital and Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman.

The Dental Hospital in Sheffield have stated I have to continue to be seen more locally to home were my condition is not understood but agreed to see me in Sheffield for tooth extractions but these need to be kept to a minimum, my dental issues are treated accordingly there by specialists who have knowledge and expertise in my complex medical condition.

I have always attended the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for the past 25 years due to the severity of my Osteogenesis Imperfecta.

This means that my teeth are very weak and brittled and I require more frequent check-ups and routine dental treatment than those of a mainstream patient, as well as being misshapen and discoloured due to this condition often associated with OI.

I am also much more prone to tooth loss to start off with which I have needless to say experienced on to many occasions already due to the Dental Hospital in Sheffield who have refused to see me but this was where I was previously seen before and all was bliss without any problems.

I have always received first class treatment in Sheffield due to its understanding and studies in OI. Living with OI is neither simple nor straightforward by any means; only specialised professionals should really deal with the dental care of someone with DI, due to the challenges and complications likely to arise as the condition worsens.  Regular dental maintenance is at the crux of slowing down the devastating impact DI has on the teeth of someone like me.

This is causing me great anxiety and distress as my dental health is currently worsening due to the lack of treatment I have received over the past few years since I was discharged away from the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital to be seen more locally to home.

Regular dental treatment in Sheffield would narrow my chances of further complications ever occurring, if these conditions go unnoticed due to someone’s lack of knowledge it would be a significant risk to my health or even life threatening.

Surgical implants/dentures are vertically impossible for me due to further risks of other serious complications such as Osteonecrosis of the jaw through frequent surgical tooth extractions, which I have experienced on to many occasions already and this is why I wish to be seen again at the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital in Sheffield.

This would put an end to the nightmare I am currently experiencing if I was accepted to be seen again within their services were my dental health is understood and treated accordingly and would reduce my chances of further more tooth loss and would better my health and well-being.
