Yorktown students should be able to be paid for senior experience

My name is Meghan O’Donnell-Swain, I am a senior at Yorktown High School. One issue that is of significant importance to me and my peers, is the rule at Yorktown that we are not allowed to be paid for our senior experience. Other high schools such as Washington Lee offer students Senior Experience where students are given the opportunity to acquire experience in the workplace by either choosing to work or by having an internship during the last few weeks of school before graduating. This is similar to Yorktown’s senior experience except, there is a rule at Yorktown that students may not be paid...
This rule is outdated due to the fact that there is a great concentration of students who are unable to afford college tuition and facing many financial burdens due to loans they must take out. Offering students an opportunity to save finances for college will contribute to alleviating this burden. I think it would be most prudent to approve this adjustment to school policy for students to be able to earn money during senior experience.
Please sign the petition so I can show this to administrators. Thank you!!
