After reading the Final Report on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, we believe the process to decolonization begins with acknowledging the cultural roots of the land which we study on. It also means recognizing the historical and ongoing violence of the Indigenous peoples. By implementing a mandatory land acknowledgement in all the course syllabi at York, we can begin to raise awareness and decolonize the relationship between York University and the local Indigenous communities.
