Hold a Separate Convocation for Glendon Students
This petition made change with 760 supporters!
On March 24, 2020, Glendon students received an email notifying us that our convocation—a moment we've all looked forward to since our first days at Glendon—had been cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.
Although the administration presented us with the option of either a virtual ceremony or joining the convocation celebrations at Keele in October, I believe that I am not alone when I say that these did not feel like fair substitutes.
Being Glendon students, much of our academic experience is attached to our beautiful campus. We have spent years here not only working diligently on our degrees, but also making friends, creating memories, and building lasting relationships—all at Glendon. From meals in the caf to journeys down to the GAC to walks past the manor to the rose garden, our campus has been so much more than simply a campus; in many ways, it has been a second home.
Unlike Glendon, the Keele campus, for many of us, holds little to no sentimental value. Although some of us may have had the odd class there, one would be hard-pressed to say that this campus holds the same emotional significance for Glendonites that Glendon does, and it is for this reason that I would like to call upon the York and Glendon administration to give us the celebration we deserve.
If we can garner enough support through this petition, I will be writing a letter to the various parties involved in organizing graduation ceremonies requesting a separate Glendon convocation in October 2020. By signing this petition, you are helping to build support for the opportunity to celebrate our years of hard work and dedication with the people that were with us throughout the journey and at the place we hold dear to our hearts—Glendon.
