Varanasi is the birth place of Hindi theatre, the first hindi drama Janki Mangal was played here by Bharatendu Harishchandra.
Drama takes a lot of hard work, months of preparation and years of practice. Hindi drama particularly in Uttar Pradesh is a dying art as it doesn't fetch money. Today in Varanasi, which is also known as the cultural capital of India, we don't have a proper auditorium for drama. Private auditorium is very expensive (approx ₹30,000-45,000 for 5 hours), additionally we hire lights and sound.
We the amature artists, who are trying to revive drama don't have a proper auditorium to perform in Varanasi. We entertain people, that's what we know, that's what we are best at and that's our little contribution to the society, to the country. Survival is becoming difficult day by day if the government doesn't support us, if you don't support us.
We need a proper theatre auditorium(with good acoustics) for drama which should atleast have a capacity of 250-300 people, proper stage lights and sound, proper parking space and at a reasonable, subsidised rate.
Till the time a proper auditorium is not made we want the government to allot a space with parking facility and basic amenities for our theatrical performances(drama).
We urge you all to support us. Hindi theatre's survival, our survival(artists) is dependent on it.
