Staff And Volunteers started this petition to Board Chair YMCA of Silicon Valley Board of Directors

Sandy Walker is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the YMCA of Silicon Valley. Sandy has recently taken to social media to use George Floyd’s name as a hot-button keyword in an attempt to manipulate the community into believing that she cares about the systemic racism and police brutality. Unfortunately, Sandy and her team have constantly and consistently failed to lead the YMCA into true systematic change in support of communities of color.

The YMCA prides itself on social responsibility and being a community centered non profit. Yet, when the time calls to take a stand for justice, the Y chooses caution. The YMCA of Silicon Valley serves one of the most dynamic and diverse communities on the planet, yet has almost no people of color in leadership roles across the organization. Sandy has failed to see the value in diversity and inclusion.

YMCA’s across the county have done an incredible job of mobilizing to support the Black Lives Matter Movement and take a clear stand against systemic racism. Instead of supporting these causes through meaningful action, Sandy decided to make a neutral stance on the matter. Sandy, to be neutral is to be complicit in the systemic racism that is tearing our country apart. Please go back to Cincinnati, we need a local leader that represents OUR community and one that will speak without hesitation against the massive injustices rampant in Silicon Valley.

This is just the tip of the iceberg for the YMCA of Silicon Valley. The abuse of fundraised dollars, leadership pay raises, and shady back door deals run rampant in the organization. Removing the leader that allows this to happen is the best first step in restoring the YMCA to its true cause.
