I am signing this petition because, I have been researching my roots and family background; which brought me to learn a lot about the integrity, purpose, and values of my family history. The Barnes family. I am very excited to learn about my history and where I come from. I am bless to be a descendant of the late great Benjamin H. Barnes and from all the hard works that he accomplished within this community. I do hope to soon be able to visit and see that his legacy still lives. Let the legacy live long and great!!!

Tuscaloosa, SHAME ON YOU!!! The descriptions of a facility with NO HOT WATER FOR YEARS, broken / missing windows, leaking roof, non-functional equipment, & NO HVAC conveys slum landlord status for serving children & families.
The 5 CORE VALUES of the YMCA are: caring, honesty, respect, inclusion, & responsibility. How can a valued organization imprint these values on children in a dilapidated, UNSAFE setting that clearly does NOT convey such? ALL children deserve a safe, healthy setting to grow & thrive, ESPECIALLY DURING A PANDEMIC!!!
PLEASE DEMAND local government support or start a Go Fund Me campaign to repair this important community facility ASAP & reflect the 5 Core Values!! Thank you!!

I’m signing because I was raised on the west side of Tuscaloosa in the 60’s-70’s. I spent a lot of time at this YMCA. The youth currently living there deserve so much better. It should have been renovated or rebuilt from the ground up decades ago.
